How To Spend The Day In London
I took the perfect day trip to London while visiting Paris. We arrived early morning by Eurostar then started our adventure with a fabulous walking tour. The afternoon was spent exploring the charming streets of London, riding the Tube, window shopping, and seeing the city from the London Eye.
This one day itinerary in London is just enough time to explore the highlights, famous landmarks, and marvelous shopping.

Bowl of Chalk Walking Tour
Our tour guide Jonnie, Bowl of Chalk Walking Tour, was fantastic! Jonnie met us at the train station at 7:00 a.m. ready to roll. He speaks with passion and is knowledgeable, trustworthy, and funny, making this first visit splendid. Check him out because the value is superb.
London Underground: The Tube
You have to experience riding the London Underground or The Tube while visiting. It’s not spacious like DC Metro and feels quite snugged. The map is color coded and wasn’t difficult to read. You can easily get turned around but that’s part of the fun of exploring a new city.
Trafalgar Square
The public square in the middle of the city surrounded by museums, historic buildings, and galleries. It’s a historical landmark commemorating the Battle of Trafalgar and it was the site of the Charing Cross.
We walked from Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square and saw the life size bronze sculpture of Nelson Mandela, Former President of South Africa and anti-apartheid activist.
Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is the Royal Residences and a must visit on your day trip in London. Much bigger than the White House in Washington, DC.
London Eye
The London Eye is the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel. We purchased our tickets at the busy box office and waited an hour to ride. They have a gallery inside and you can enjoy the sights around while you’re waiting. The London Eye is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom.
Yes, we purchased this cute souvenir photo to remember the good times!
Big Ben
Big Ben is the world’s most famous clock and a must-see attraction in London. The clock was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. According to Visit London Official Visitor Guide, Elizabeth Tower stands at more than 96 meters (105yards) tall, with 334 steps to climb up to the belfry and 399 steps to the Ayrton Light at the very top of the tower.
Harrods
Harrods is absolutely amazing! I had never experienced so much luxury and opulence in one place until visiting here. The store is gorgeous, gigantic with over 330 departments, and very expensive. It has everything you can imagine and over 20 restaurants.
We dined at The Burger Bar, a delicious burger with fancy water. We bought our souvenirs from their food and wine section. The chocolate covered shortbread cookies were divine!
If you’re taking a day trip to London, definitely stop by the world’s most famous, luxurious department store.
