Historic Gaslamp District
I had a wonderful fun-filled day with a walkabout tour through the Gaslamp Historic District. The restaurants and cute boutiques are fabulous. Once upon a time this was the Red Light District with brothels. The size of the city streets reminds me of the Midwest.
You also can catch the trolly to go off the beaten path. I traveled to San Diego solo and it’s an easy city to maneuver comfortably for solo female travelers.
Horton Plaza has artsy sights and I saw Wyatt Earps apartment, which I hear is haunted-BOO!

Little Italy
Little Italy has the cutest shops and unique vendors. It was a beautiful day for walking the strip. Of course, I had to try their Italian food and they didn’t disappoint. I had dinner at Mimmo’s Italian Village and the ambiance was amazing! It reminds me of a cozy restaurant in Italy. The salad and fresh bread were a delicious start. The pasta was scrumptious and perfectly seasoned. I was so caught up in the moment, I forgot to take a photo of our entrees.
Coronado Island & Hotel Del Coronado
Coronado Island and Hotel Del Coronado are absolutely gorgeous! The ocean views are breathtaking and relaxing. The hotel is elegant and massive with an awesome gift shop. A definite must visit in San Diego.
Balboa Park
People rave about Balboa Park so I was excited to visit. It’s a beautiful park but takes a few days to cover so plan accordingly. I visited the side with the museums, lovely gardens, and restaurants. A wonderful place to stroll and relax. San Diego is a dream!

Cabrillo National Monument Park
You must visit Cabrillo National Monument Park for a spectacular view of the city. It’s breathtaking and I shedded a tear in fascination. It’s at the top of the hill with a killer view and the wind blowing is refreshingly liberating. The park has a lighthouse and you can see Tijuana, Mexico from one side. It was a fire at the time and so I could see the black smoke. There are trails, cliffs, and tide pools. There’s a military cemetery and Washington Monument replica. Pretty amazing!
It’s a $7 entrance fee but worth the price of admission. I thought it can’t get any better than this. If you appreciate the lushness of natural beauty, Cabrillo is your spot.
The park has the best views of San Diego.
Look up at the sky, give thanks, let the wind blow through your hair, and take flight.
Kissing Statue
One of the highlights of my visit was seeing the “Kissing Statue!” It’s giant but oozes romance on the bay. It’s a great area to visit and peruse. I could sit here all day with the sun gleaming, music playing, runners, bikers, and people just enjoying the moment. I captured different angles, the eagles sitting on his cap, and flying in the air were so pretty.
Next to the statue is “A National Salute to Bob Hope and the Military.”
Mission Beach
Mission Beach is spectacular with captivating sunsets and beaches. I’ll never tire of the ocean’s beauty. Believe the San Diego hype because it’s stunning and the weather is great for runners. The beach also has a small amusement park with a rollercoaster, boardwalk, and zip lining. I love the vibe and spirit of the city.
La Jolla Cove
Ghirardelli Ice Cream Shop
Lights camera Ghirardelli! I had to stop for a yummy Black Cherry Vanilla ice cream cone that reminds me of my childhood favorite Velvet Freeze. It’s located in the Gaslamp District and a great way to end the day.
Seaport Village
Seaport Village is another lovely place to stroll along the Bay. Cute shops, pleasant vibes, and caviar dreams will guarantee good times!
I enjoyed this lovely bookstore and coffeehouse with unique gifts, great books, and fine coffee.
Altitude Sky Lounge
The Altitude Sky Lounge in the Marriott Gaslamp is my favorite spot for fabulous nighttime view. It’s a swank, sophisticated rooftop with the loveliest skyline overlooking Petco Park Stadium. Classy atmosphere with super nice bartenders. One bartender offered to Google the ingredients of a drink to make for me, and the other made sure I drank the last drop. San Diego has a vibrant nightlife, the nicest people I’ve ever met and that’s no exaggeration.
Richard Walker’s Pancake House
Richard Walker’s Pancake House is known for their gourmet pancakes and breakfasts. Their specialty German pancake takes 20 minutes to prepare so instead I ordered the blueberry pancakes. The pancakes are big and I could only eat two; however, the applewood bacon was the talk of the party. Juice is expensive on the menu but it was so good.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Promenade
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Promenade is a very nice tribute along the trail. You can run, bike, and enjoy the sights. Quotes of his speeches are along the path and the DREAM statues are spelled out in sign language.
“Breaking of the Chains” by artist Melvin Edwards is dedicated to Dr. King.
Old Town
Old Town is vibrant with bold colors and savory aromas. I couldn’t wait to taste the food and lunch at Casa Guadalajara was delicious!
It’s alluring with festive music, sweet smell of sugar coated peanuts, churros, and unique crafts and shops. You’re transported to a different phase of life.
San Francisco was my favorite U.S. city until I visited San Diego.
