Running Overweight: 5K to Marathons

I’m sharing my health journey and tips on how to start running when you’re overweight, out of shape, and older. If you’re a beginner or restarting, this is your motivation. I always wanted to run but felt weird running in public. When my weight skyrocketed to nearly 200 pounds and I couldn’t walk up steps without losing my breath, I decided to conquer my fear of running.

The Journey

I started running at 39 on a mission to improve my health, lose weight, and boost my confidence. As a beginner, I used the run/walk method which helped me slowly learn to run 5Ks and marathons.

Since I’m often asked how do you start running overweight, I decided to make a video sharing my journey. Whether running for weight loss or improved health, I hope my experiences can help you throughout your running and fitness journey. Check with your doctor before starting a running program. Visit your local running store to test your running gait for the proper running shoes. I started my run program with the Jeff Galloway run/walk method.

Watch my journey and let me know challenges you have overcome on your fitness journey.
