Unconventional Diner: Modern Comfort Food

I was in the mood for modern comfort food and decided to try Unconventional Diner. I’ve heard cool things about this restaurant and was excited to try it for the first time with visiting guests. It’s located next to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Mount Vernon Triangle. The closest Metro is Mount Vernon Square in the heart of the city. 

Ambiance & Style 

I love the beautiful decor and spacious dining area. They have main and outdoor dining and a bar. Even with all this space, it’s very cozy. DC is Brunch Kingdom and they serve brunch everyday available to 4:00pm.

The menu is unconventional with several delicious options. First, we started off with an intriguing cocktail, Sweet Bitter Love mixed with Resposado tequila. It was tasty but needed a little more love with the tequila.

Our food was served quickly, fresh and hot. OMG! The Brussels sprout and fried egg in masala were scrumptious. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection with a nice crunch. The smoked salmon really set it off, and the grits were so creamy, cheesy, and savory. I devoured the bowl of grits. 

As a burger connoisseur, the double cheeseburger was on point. Not too thick or overpowering, the burger melted like butter in my mouth. 

Service & Value

The customer service was excellent, staff knowledgeable, and ambiance superb! An enjoyable meal and spot I highly recommend to tantalize your unconventional palate.
