Riding DC Metro During A Pandemic

Is riding DC Metro safe during the pandemic? The first three months of the pandemic, I didn’t ride the Metro train. Metro closed several stations so when I returned to ride, I was alarmed at having to take a shuttle bus to transfer to an open station; however, it wasn’t overcrowded. I felt comfortable once I got on the train because everyone was wearing a mask, which is required on the Metro bus and train. It was nice passing the museums and seeing a calmer DC.

Metro is operated by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and there’s always a station manager on duty to assist you. All tourist attractions have metro stops nearby and once you purchase your SmarTrip card, you’re ready to roll. You can use your card on the Metro bus and Circulator.
