How To Ride Metro: Tips From A Local

Check out my simple tips on how to ride the Metro in Washington, DC. Riding Metro is an awesome and convenient way to tour the city. Gridlock is horrific and driving will cost you. Parking is expensive and hard to find downtown or in popular areas. Save yourself time and learn how to ride Metro. 

Peak Metrorail fare is $2.25 – $6.00 and off-peak fare is $2.00 – $3.85. Weekend Metrorail one-way fare is $2.00. Metrobus regular route is $2.00. Up to two children, age four and younger, can ride free with each fare-paying adult. Children five and older pay regular fare. 

Watch this video to learn three easy tips on how to ride Metro and you’re ready to roll! Metro is operated by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and there’s always a station manager to assist you. Most tourist attractions have metro stops and you need to purchase a SmarTrip card to ride. You can use your SmarTrip card to ride the bus and Circulator. Visit WMATA to plan your trip.
